The recovery period from an amputation surgery takes from 6 to 10 weeks. After that, temporary prosthetic limbs are installed while the stump stabilizes and takes its shape, a process that takes from 6 to 18 months. Then, permanent prosthetic limbs are installed.

How is the artificial limb installed?

Artificial limbs are installed by applying a special material or a differently shaped cushion to the stump. They are then placed into the socket of the prosthetic limb, and the fixation device is activated by either vacuum suction if it’s an airless socket or a one-way valve for air.
